Reconstruction

At the beginning of the nineties extensive measures of preservation and reconstruction of the Masters' Houses began with the renovation of the Feininger House. (Commissioned by the city of Dessau). The Kandinsky/Klee House was able to be reconstructed from 1999/2000 with the generous help of the building firm HOCHTIEF based in Essen and the Muche/Schlemmer House was able to be reconstructed from 2000/2001 with the help of the Wüstenrot Foundation.
Now the last two buildings which were destroyed, Walter Gropius' detached house and Maholy-Nagy's half of Feininger's house are the topic of discussions as to how they could be included into the complete ensemble.
In the autumn of 2002 the historical paths around the sites, the lawns and the trees were re-landscaped under the framework of a monumental objective.
Together with the Bauhaus building, the Masters' Houses ensemble was included on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1996.
